How-To Coach Barbara K

Barbara K: With 10 years of experience in the male-dominated construction industry, Barbara Kavovit, (a.k.a. Barbara K), set out to create a line of tools designed specifically for women. Her vision of self sufficient, independent women relying on themselves for home improvement repairs led to the creation of Barbara K Enterprises, which hosts a multitude of Barbara's tool kits, books, and how-to projects, all created with the modern woman in mind.

Claim to Fame: Barbara K's first toolkit was designed specifically for a woman's grip, containing 30 lightweight tools, organized in a compact carrying case. This toolkit's strong success further inspired Barbara to create more specified equipment including power tools, a dorm survival kit, an automotive kit, and more.

Prize Points: Barbara's ever-growing line of tools have become available in most major US stores containing home products, and have even spread to Europe and Australia. She has been featured in the New York Times Magazine, USA Today, Real Simple, and O, The Oprah Magazine, among others, and appears frequently on television.

Personal File: Kavovit, originally from New Rochelle, NY began her career in the construction industry by helping local women with their home repairs. She later formed her own company, Anchor Construction, which brought her to bigger, more in-depth improvement projects. Her idea for a women's line of tools was inspired by a Sex & the City episode in which the self-sufficient character, Samantha, finds that she is unable to fix her fallen shower curtain alone.

Who Needs It? Women that want to feel confident, self-sufficient, and in charge if the need for a home repair arises.
