Love & Sex Rekindle Relationships

Where Is the Best Place to Meet a Man?

By Ian Kerner, AOL Love & Sex Coach and author of 'DSI: Date Scene Investigation'

Q: I'm in my 50s. Where can I go to meet men if I'm not into the bar scene or online dating?

A: Today 50 is like the new 40, which is like the new 30, so you can be a wonderfully attractive, successful, sexy woman in your 50s and have a lot to bring to the relationship because in your 20s or 30s you're often living through a relationship. As someone in your 50s you're really able to bring stuff to a relationship.

The first thing I'd love to say to someone who's in their 50s is that I've seen more and more women in their 50s dating men who are their own age or even younger.

Begin with the sense of self-confidence and self-empowerment that comes with age, and know that online dating and the bar scene often don't work for people in their 20s either. It has to be part of an overall mix.

You should absolutely give the Internet a whirl, you should absolutely go to bars with your girlfriends, but you should often be talking to friends and family about blind dates and trying to have them set up dates for you.

As someone in your 50s, you've cultivated a lot of interests. Maybe it's time to either continue to develop those interests by signing up for classes or doing vacations that are oriented around your interests, or possibly developing new interests and doing some of the stuff that you've always wanted to do but never got a chance -- going out and taking a rock climbing class, or signing up for the singles night at musical theaters and taking a musical theater subscription.

You really need to think about the overall mix of activities that you are embarking on and that applies as much to a woman in her 50s as to a woman in her 30s.
