Money Understand Your Finances

Why We Want You to Be Rich

Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump discuss how being fully educated about financial matters can lead to significant payoffs in the long run.

Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump, co-authors of 'Why We Want You to Be Rich,' recently spoke with AOL Book Maven Bethanne Patrick at the 2006 Quill Book Awards. Here are excerpts from that interview:

Bethanne Patrick: Live at the 2006 Quill Awards, I'm Bethanne Patrick and I am joined on the red carpet by Mr. and Mrs. Kiyosaki. Tell me: what brings you to the Quills besides the new book?

Robert Kiyosaki: Well, it is an honor to be invited to the Quills. These are the brightest guys in the world -- these authors. It’s an honor to be here -- and to be here with Donald Trump, my friend -- it's great. It's just an honor. It's beyond my wildest dreams.

Bethanne Patrick: And you are also a bestselling author, Mrs. Kiyosaki. What is your favorite book?

Kim Kiyosaki: Well, of course my favorite book is my book, 'Rich Woman,' but I've got a big plug for 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' and for the new book, 'Why We Want You to Be Rich' with Donald Trump and Robert. I think it's fabulous. We were hoping that, even though 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' has been out for nine years, we were hoping it'd be nominated. [laughs]

Bethanne Patrick: Why not? It's great to see you here at the Quills.

Robert Kiyosaki: It's a great lineup of contestants. Some of my favorite authors ... and I get to announce, so what a great thing.

Bethanne Patrick: Who are some of your favorites?

Robert Kiyosaki: Barbara Ehrenreich, Jim Collins. This is fabulous. I get so many ideas from them. Barbara is after my own heart -- she wrote 'Nickel and Dimed,' which is such a social statement on where we are today in the world. So, I'm looking forward to meeting her.

Bethanne Patrick: So a real treat for you as well.

Kim Kiyosaki: What else is exciting is that Robert and Donald Trump will be announcing the Business Book Award tonight. So that'll be really thrilling.

Bethanne Patrick: And maybe 'Bait and Switch' will win?

    Robert Kiyosaki: Who knows?

    Kim Kiyosaki: They're all talented.

Robert Kiyosaki: I really love that woman -- she's a great writer and a great social commentator.

Bethanne Patrick: Thanks again so much.
