Make a Fizzy Bath Bomb For Mom

by Mary Hunt, AOL Coach and editor of Debt-Proof Living,
When asked "What does Mom want for Mother’s Day?," 76 percent of the respondents at Debt-Proof Living online responded, “Time Off!”

A basket of bath products could be a perfect way to let mom know she’s getting a little time off this Mother’s Day. Include something you made yourself and your gift will mean that much more. Here’s how to make a fizzy bath bomb for mom:

Fizzy Bath Bombs
2 tablespoons citric acid
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 teaspoon essential oil
3-6 drops food coloring
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

1. Mix all dry ingredients (citric acid, cornstarch, baking soda) in a bowl.

2. In a different bowl or a small cup, mix together the vegetable oil, essential oil, and coloring.

3. Slowly incorporate the oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix well.

With your hands, form 1-inch balls of the mixture and place on waxed paper. They will be semi-hard within 2-3 hours; allow 24 to 48 hours for them to fully dry.

Store bath balls in a sealed container, away from moisture.

To use: Add a few to the bath and enjoy! For gift giving place in individual candy cups.

Notes:

You can buy citric acid in bulk at a health food store. Fragrance and/or coloring are optional. Find essential oil in health food stores or craft stores. You can also search online for these items, which are used by soapmakers and in other craft projects.

Suggested vegetable oils include coconut oil, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil or olive oil.
